Relationship to Literature
The paper do provide a literature review that relevant and coincide with the study which is ‘the role of kinetic facade to improve environmental performance’. The author begin with a brief and
easy understanding description to introduce the study. Next, adaptive systems combine the best of existing strategies is clearly explained by the author.
The author provide a literature review on the reduction of building energy by reliance on mechanical systems. Moreover, a literature review on the power generating with building-integrated photovoltaic systems (BIPV) has been provided. The author reviews literature on the study of energy consumption on non-shade system in both heating and cooling. Furthermore, the author provide literature reviews to support both of the study of improvement of day lightning control by using light-deflection techniques and enhancement of the lumen performance in indoor environment over conventional facades.
The ventilation control of the kinetic facade system is ignored by the author. Ventilation control is a major benefit in kinetic facade system which cannot be ignored. The literature reviews provided by the author are lack of detailed explanation if compared with other articles. The literature reviews are cited in an appropriate range of literature sources and appropriate references were used by the author. These statements are be conductive to the overall understanding of the study. However,the paper has demonstrated an inadequate understanding of literature related to the study due to the lack of adequate information.
The paper’s argument is built on an appropriate of theory of kinetic facade instead of on a populations. Several pieces of information about the kinetic facade from the same case are linked to the theory, the results obtained are then enhanced and supported by numerous case studies.
Qualitative case study research method is employed by author in the paper. The method is appropriate to use in the research as the case study only examine the environmental performance of kinetic facade in details. The case studies are selected base on the subject of environmental performance in kinetic facade buildings. The case studies in the paper are presented in considerable detail. The project description in the case study is presented in full details of buildings design approach, buildings design intention and buildings background. The performance features are also well presented with detail of energy consumption and environmental performance of the buildings.
Besides, the research process is well designed in this paper. The research process is designed with a multiple-case design which show numerous sources of evidence of environmental performance in kinetic facade through replication instead of sampling logic. The research process is carried out by investigate the literature studies that conducted research on multiple case studies to evaluate the environmental performance of kinetic facade systems from numerous perspectives.
